CHANGES
NEXT YEAR- 2008
I am very sad to announce that at Easter time I shall be leaving Abbey
Park First School, to take up another headship in Worcestershire. I
shall be extremely sad to leave such a wonderful school, but I was
presented with the opportunity to take on another exciting new
challenge, and to further my career in leading a larger school
– Perry Wood Primary and Nursery School. I shall take up the
post just after Easter, in the Summer term 2008.
The governors will be meeting early in the new year to decide what will
happen in the Summer term when I leave, and of course we shall keep you
fully informed about all future plans and when we will appoint a new
headteacher to lead Abbey Park.
MRS
CAINE
Congratulations to Mrs Caine, who is expecting a baby in early March
2008. She will be commencing her maternity leave just after February
half term on the 18th February. We are delighted to announce that Mrs
Mitchell will be covering Mrs Caine’s maternity leave during
this period. Mrs Mitchell is very well known to all our children, and
has been working as a supply teacher at our school over the last year.
I know that she will work closely with Mrs Witts, and carry on the
wonderful work in the early years with the reception children. Early in
the new year we shall invite all the reception parents into school to
meet Mrs Mitchell.
A
BIG THANKYOU!
Thankyou to all the parents that supported us at our recent bingo
evening. We had a super evening and we raised £300! Thankyou
to the ‘Friends’ of the school who constantly give
up so much of their time to arrange these events.
We also raised £ 89.93 for the last non uniform
day. All this money will go towards new stage and lighting
for the school hall, so please keep on supporting us!
LAST WEEK OF TERM!
PANTO- Tuesday 18th
We are all really looking forward to the pantomime trip to see Aladdin
at the Swan theatre in Worcester on Tuesday 18th December. We hope to
leave very promptly at 9.00 a.m from school. Please don’t
forget the labelled carton of drink. We shall be back to school around
lunchtime. Thankyou to all the parents that contributed towards the
cost, and I thankfully did not need to cancel the trip.
PARTY DAY – Thursday 20th
You will have received the letter requesting food for the party day.
Please send the food in on Thursday morning, so that our volunteers can
start to arrange it ready for lunch time. If you are able to come in
and help we would be so grateful. Please come to the office and we
shall let you know the times. The children can of course wear their
party clothes. It should be good fun!
NON UNIFORM DAY- FRIDAY 21st
As the children will not be wearing their uniforms on Thursday for the
party, it seemed sensible that on the last day, Friday, the children
could have another non uniform day! Please could the children bring a
£1 for the privilege, and this money will go towards
more forest school equipment that we need. If you have more
that one child in the family then make it £1 for
the whole family.
GAMES ON THE LAST DAY!
As another special treat, the children may bring in a favourite board
game, toy or cards that they can share with their friends on the LAST
DAY OF TERM. We would rather they did not bring electronic
‘game boys’, but some game they can share with
others. Please make sure they bring it in a named bag.
BOOK STAMPS
Mrs Gordani has very kindly offered to sell book stamps for us after
Christmas. You will find her in the reception entrance area. We have
not confirmed which mornings yet, but I shall let you know in the
January newsletter.
LUNCH TIME CHATS!
I have been delighted with the response for parents to join the
children at lunch times for a chat and enjoy eating with the children!
We have had many parents come in and it has been lovely to observe the
parents with the children. The children also think it is wonderful!
I shall be putting more dates on the January newsletter for you to sign
up to if you wish to join us at lunchtime and sample the lovely healthy
hot meals that Pershore High School provide. Oh and you have to do lots
of talking with the children too!
TALK TIME FOR JANUARY 2008
TALK TOPIC IS:
What would be your new years
resolution, and for the school and for the world?
ANTI BULLYING WEEK
I shall let you know the outcome of our anti bullying week in the
January newsletter.
A
FOOTBALL REPORT FROM ABBEY PARK FOOTBALL TEAM.
On Tuesday 4th December, the school football team played its toughest
match yet, against the Year 5s from Abbey Park Middle School.
The match was incredibly fast paced and full of action!
Straight from the off, Scott and Jordan worked extremely hard in
midfield to provide some fantastic opportunities for strikers Michael
and Harry to break through the Middle School’s
defence. George and Layton defended superbly and managed to
stop the ball getting anywhere near goalkeeper Shae for a long
time. Unfortunately, the Middle School did eventually find a
way through and managed to slot the ball past Shae, putting them one
goal up. However, the First School did not lose heart, and
using the fresh legs of Megan, Liam and Ben they brought themselves
right back into the game. The turning point of the match came
when Jordan was awarded a free kick very close to the half way
line. Jordan stepped up and sent the ball flying over the
heads of the Middle School defenders and into the top corner of the
goal, bringing the score all level at 1-1. The match
continued in this way, until Harry found his way into space and struck
the ball past the goal keeper...and onto the hand of a Middle School
defender! Penalty to the First School! Harry took
the spot kick, but some excellent goal keeping denied him the
goal. The match ended 1-1, with both teams very
tired! It was an incredibly close competition, where the
strength and size of the Middle School players was finely balanced by
the skill and determination of the First School. Watch this
space for news on the rematch!
We were all so proud of our football team who did a fantastic job on
the football field. My thanks also go to Mr Perry and Mrs Hill who give
up their time every Tuesday to support the children at football club. I
look forward to more fixtures next year.
WELL DONE EVERYONE!
