ANY GREEN FINGERS OUT THERE?
I must
say a huge, huge thank you to our hard working group of dedicated gardeners.
They have worked so hard throughout the year, in all weathers, to make our
grounds and gardens around school look so lovely. We are always interested in
recruiting new gardeners to join the green fingered gang. So if you could spare
a few hours on a Monday morning and fancy popping on your wellies please let us
know, we would be most grateful.
HISTORY WEEK
Next
week we are having a week dedicated to history, where all the children will be
doing lots of exciting and interesting activities linked to different times
through history. Each class will be visiting the middle school for a history
lesson there too! On Wednesday 11th
we are going to have a historical fancy
dress parade, where we would like all children to come dressed up as a
character from history or as a famous event in history or as an era e.g.: Florence
Nightingale, first man on the moon, Victorian, prehistoric, 1960’s, 1990’s etc.
There will be a small prize given to
each class for the most impressive costume!
Also
attached to this newsletter is an historical
questionnaire that we would love you to share and complete with your child,
as they will be using it during the week.
It has
come to our attention that more and more children, usually the younger ones,
are entering our lovely forest school area both before and after school.
We have
two concerns regarding this issue: the first being that it has potential
dangers to young children when unsupervised, e.g. stinging nettles, large
sticks and logs; the other concern is that damage is being caused when the
children are entering the area, as equipment, objects and children’s work are
being moved and broken. So, please for the safety of your children and for the
preservation of all the wonderful work, please KEEP OUT!
We are
currently in the process of making mini fences with KEEP OUT signs. We hope
that this will act as a reminder and also as a deterrent!
BIG BAGS
We have
recently had a number of children bringing large bags to school and we would
like to remind you that school policy is currently not to allow these large
bags (apart from children who come on the school bus). There is not enough
space on the pegs and we find that coats end up being knocked onto the floor.
However there will be a parents’ questionnaire coming out soon and if you do
feel strongly about this please let us know in the questionnaire- we do listen
to and value your opinions.
BIKES AND
SCOOTERS ON THE PLAYGROUND
It is
great to see more and more children coming to school by foot, bike or scooter
rather than in a car. However please do ensure that your child dismounts at the
gate and walks to the playground. It is just not safe for bikes or scooters of
any size to be used within the school grounds.
BOOK STAMPS
Once
again I would like to thank Clare Brant for the great job that she has been
doing of selling book stamps. We have decided only to sell them on a Tuesday
morning as Thursday mornings have been very quiet. She has a few regular
customers, who are bringing in their spare pennies and have saved several
pounds already; it’s amazing just how quickly it all adds up! It’s never too
late to start saving, just pop into school on a Tuesday morning and you will
find Claire sat outside the staff room.
