STAFF CHANGES FOR THE SUMMER TERM
We are pleased to announce that we have appointed Miss Sarah Mitchell
as the year 2 teacher for Miss Hutchinson’s class for the Summer
term. Miss Mitchell is a newly qualified teacher, and has been
teaching in a number of schools as a supply teacher. Miss Mitchell has
also worked in our school in the past as part of her work experience so
she knows the school very well.
Miss Hutchinson, although acting headteacher, will be supporting her
during the whole of the term. The children have already met Miss
Mitchell, but she will be visiting the school over the next two weeks
to get to know the children much better. We would also like to invite
all our year two parents into the classroom on TUESDAY 18th MARCH at
3.00 pm in order to meet Miss Mitchell with the children. She
will also accompany Miss Hutchinson during the parent
evenings next week, so you will have another chance to meet her. We are
really looking forward to welcoming her to our school, and I know that
she is very excited to be coming to Abbey Park to teach our lovely
children in year two. I hope the year two parents will be able to meet
Miss Mitchell on the above date.
ACTIVEMARK 2007
I am delighted to announce that we have just been awarded Activemark
2007 for exceptional delivery of the National Sport Strategy. We
received this award after being assessed to see how much PE and
extra curricular sport clubs the children are doing each week. It was
found that at least 90% of children across the school were doing at
least 2 hours high quality PE and school sport each week! The award
lasts for twelve months, and then we will be automatically assessed
again through next year’s annual school sport survey. At
the top of the page you will see the new logo which will now join our
other achievements on our school letter head.
A great big thankyou to all the staff and parents who give up their own
time to provide these extra sporting opportunites for the
children after school. Special thanks go to Mrs Pratley, our PE
coordinator, and Mr Perry who have worked hard to co ordinate and
promote sport in our school by offering three active clubs per week.
Thankyou to Mrs Smith who helps Mrs Pratley on a regular basis, Mrs
Hill who supports Mr Perry with the football, and also Mr Crouch who
has also given up his time to coach rugby at our school
ANY PARENTS INTERESTED IN A BREAKFAST CLUB?
Recently I received a note in the comment box requesting a breakfast
club at the school, to run from 8.30 am. I am very interested to hear
if other parents would welcome this too. I cannot guarantee that this
will happen in the future, but we would explore this possibility if we
have enough parents wanting this, especially working parents.
If we were able to provide this service in the future would you be
interested in us providing breakfast for your children? There would
obviously be a small cost for this but at this stage I can not give you
an exact figure. I would be very grateful if you could fill in the slip
below and return to school as soon as possible to show your interest.
Thankyou.
RECENT FUND RAISING EVENTS
NON UNIFORM DAY
On the 8th February the Friends held a non uniform day in order
to raise funds for their next project for the school- buying stage
lights and staging for the hall. They raised £101.10.
DVD SALES OF THE RECEPTION PERFORMANCE AT CHRISTMAS
The Friends raised £55 selling the DVD’S of the reception
Christmas performance. Thankyou to Mrs Cathy Davis who filmed the
performance for us and then organised the sales.

We took £300 in book sales at the recent book fair, enabling us
to have 40% commission in books. Each teacher chose new books for their
classroom libraries.
Thankyou to all parents that supported us in the above events.
NATIONAL DOODLE DAY
We had a fantastic ‘doodle day’ on Friday 7th March. It was
lovely to see all the children sprawled out on the floor enjoying
doodling on the larges pieces of paper in the hall! Everyone had great
fun and we hope to display the ‘doodles’ in school for you
to come and have a look at! Thankyou to Mrs Wiitts who organised the
event.
BOOK FAIR
It was fantastic to see so many children dressed up as their favourite
animal character on Friday 29th February. The costumes’ were
amazing! Thankyou to all parents that encouraged and helped their
children to dress up on the day.
BOOK FAIR COMPETITION
Although we had very few entries for the drawing competition where we
asked the children to draw their favourite animal from a book of their
choice, the children who did enter the competition did a brilliant job!
The winners were: kate Howley (Reception), Josh Sharrott ( year 1),
Ryan Sefton ( year 2), Harley Williams (year 3), Jasmine Hayes ( year
4), and Matthew Smith ( year 4). They each received a book from the
book fair as their prize.
