Bob Green from Bishops Wood came to re line the pond with the help of
parents, Mr and Mrs Purvis, Mrs Lloyd Cowley, Mrs Davis and teacher Mrs
Caine.
Our Team with Coach Mr Perry On Monday 4th December, the school
football team played their first match of the season against Cherry
Orchard First School.
The boys in the team had been looking forward to the match for a long
time and couldn't wait to kick off after they had put on their new
emerald green kits.
From the moment the whistle blew it was clear to see that these teams
were very evenly matched.
However, some solid defence from Liam and Gordon, and great passing
from the likes of Scott and Michael soon meant that Harry was able to
escape into
Cherry Orchard's half and slot the first goal of the match home for
Abbey
Park. With the light fading and rain coming down hard, the teams
continued
to battle it out.
Early into the second half, a brilliant throw in from Layton confused
Cherry Orchard's defence, resulting in an own goal to put Abbey Park
2-0 up. However, Cherry Orchard were by no means out of the game.
Within minutes they had bounced back, firing two great shots past Tyler
to bring the score level at 2-2. Just as fulltime was approaching and
darkness falling, Abbey Park were awarded a penalty for an unfortunate
handball in the Cherry Orchard box. Jim was the man to take it, sending
the goalkeeper the wrong way but hitting the post! Unlucky!
The game ended 2-2, and the boys on both teams then showed what good
sportsmen they were by giving each other three cheers and shaking
hands.
